Advanced Placement Program
Our Advanced Placement Program is designed to provide all students with the opportunity to be adequately challenged and to intellectually confront college material at their level. The array of materials used elicits the development of higher level thinking skills and creative problem solving. In addition to providing these students with a college experience, the program fosters the skills and the knowledge base needed to be successful in the nation's most rigorous colleges. All of this is done within a supportive system so that when the student has completed the program, he/she has the confidence to successfully meet future academic demands. One of the unique features of the program is that it provides for student diversity and individual needs and interests. Offering Advanced Placement courses in English Composition, English Literature, U.S. History, European History, World History, U.S. Government & Politics, Human Geography, Economics, Psychology, French, Spanish, Studio Art and Music Theory in the Humanities; Biology, Physics B & C, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Calculus AB & BC, and Statistics, in the mathematics and science areas, the program provides the students with a variety of learning experiences from which to choose. Students are encouraged to go as far and as deeply as they can in areas where their abilities and interests lie. They are not forced into a pre-packaged program. While courses are taught at the college level, students in all levels are permitted to take an AP course if their interests, background and abilities have prepared them for the class. The program has expanded in the last several years and we look forward to adding additional AP courses in the future.
